The Internet is the most important communication and technological innovation of our generation. The importance and impact of the Internet is based in its ability to facilitate the instantaneous and seamless transfer of information to and from anywherein the world. Whether this transfer of information is to facilitate commerce, research, or social networking, there is no denying the impact of the internet on our daily lives.

Despite the dramatic and substantial benefits the internet has made on the daily lives of most of the citizens of the world and our country, a sad truth prevails. The same inequities that have historically plagued our country i.e. location, poverty, and racism have also created a digital divide.

This digital divide is sometimes defined as the gap between peoplewith effective access to digital technology and thosewith limited or no access at all, and this digital divide oftentimes manifest itself as a lack of access to high speed broadband internet service. This unequal access unfairly disadvantages some citizen’s of our great country in much the same way as the failed segregationist doctrines of the past once did.

However, there is hope. In order to close this digital divide, the federal and state governments have created programs and allocated funding so that rural municipalities and governments can upgrade their telecommunications infrastructure. These upgrades will allow all of the citizens of our great nation access to high speed broadband internet.

The Southern Broadband Venture, (SBV) specializes in helping our clients, rural and underprivileged municipalities obtain the funding needed to insure their local citizens access to high speed broadband internet service at little or no cost to the client. SBV then oversees the administration, installation, and maintenance of the infrastructure necessary to provide high speed broadband internet service to the citizens of our clients. In short our primary goal at SBV is to help our clients Bridge the Digital Divide.
